Sibling Weekend is a chance for Texas Tech students and their younger brothers and sisters to have fun and experience college while creating stronger bonds.
The Office of Parent and Family Relations will host its first-ever Sibling Weekend Feb. 27-March 1.
Sibling Weekend 2009 is a new event and is designed to be a fun, educational and spirit-filled weekend for Texas Tech students and their younger siblings.
“One of the aims of Sibling Weekend is to let brothers and sisters of Texas Tech students know that the university is a place for them, too,” said Ken Gassiot, associate director of the Office of Parent and Family Relations. “The Texas Tech family is comprised of alumni, students, staff, faculty and many others. Younger brothers and sisters share in the collegiate experience just as parents and other family members do and their involvement in our community is essential. We are working to create an experience that is truly unique and special for all participants.”
The primary goal of the weekend is to encourage siblings between the ages of 8-15 to come to Texas Tech to spend time with their brother or sister who is a current student, and to participate in a range of fun activities throughout the weekend.
Gassiot hopes that the younger siblings who participate will create even stronger bonds with their brother or sister who is at Texas Tech and get a sense of what it’s like to be a Red Raider.
To make it economical for families, the cost is $20 per participant. This includes two dinners, two breakfasts and lunch. The deadline for registration is Feb. 20. For more information, including a full schedule and registration form, visit the Web site.
