Santa Claus and Raider Red will be available to take pictures with kids at the annual Carol of Lights Pre-Lighting Festival at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion.

The Alumni Association will host the fifth annual Pre-Lighting Festival at 5 p.m. Dec. 5 prior to the Carol of Lights. The event will be held at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion, located southwest of the Jones AT&T Stadium. All Texas Tech alumni, students and members of the community are welcome to attend.

In the spirit of giving, the Alumni Association would like to invite the attendants to give Christmas gifts to those who cannot afford to put toys under the tree this season. The Marine Corps Reserve will be at the festival ready to load their trucks with presents for their annual Christmas charity, Toys for Tots. All toys donated are distributed to local families who are unable to give gifts to their children on Christmas morning. Those who bring a gift for the organization will receive a coupon for a free drink at the pavilion.

All present will have a chance to win various door prizes. An assortment of food and drinks will be offered at the festival, including cookies, popcorn and hot chocolate. Santa Claus will make a guest appearance to take pictures and hear Christmas wishes. Raider Red also will be present for photo opportunities and fun for children.

A Texas Tech student will be presented with a $1,000 scholarship award donated by the Student Alumni Association Board of Directors. Raffle tickets for the prize may be purchased for $1 at the event or at the Merket Alumni Center, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The student must be present during the drawing to win the award. The money will be put toward tuition for the spring 2009 semester.
