Fundraising Goal Reached for Jones AT&T Stadium Expansion
November 19, 2008
Groundbreaking for new facility scheduled for Nov. 29th
Kent Hance, chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, announced today (Nov.19)
that donations of $2.3 million received over the past two weeks have pushed Texas
Tech University over its fundraising goal for the expansion of Jones AT&T Stadium.
"We have had tremendous response from Red Raider fans and are thankful to all our
generous donors," Hance said. "With fundraising efforts for the east-side expansion
now complete, I'm happy to announce the groundbreaking celebration will take place
before our last home game of the season on Nov. 29."
Hance said that recent donations were matched by Larry Anders, Texas Tech University
System Board of Regents member. Anders pledged two weeks ago to match all new donations
towards the stadium expansion up to $1 million. His generosity drew $1.3 million in
additional contributions which he matched with his own $1 million contribution.
"Larry is a great friend to Texas Tech and we appreciate his leadership and generous
financial support in our efforts to complete the funding for the stadium expansion
project," Hance said. "His matching offer motivated a lot of people to step up and
helped us exceed our target."
