Creator of Texas Tech's mascot tells the story behind Raider Red

Ah, perception.
You, for instance, might look at the sidelines of the Texas Tech-Oklahoma State football game in Lubbock today, and see one thing: A big-headed, red-haired, red-booted, rootin'-tootin' mascot rousing the Texas Tech crowd.
Jim Gaspard of Dallas sees quite another: His firstborn.
"We go to games maybe once a year," he says of himself and his wife, Dinah. "Any time I see a Raider Red, I go up and say, 'Hi. I'm your dad.' They give me an awkward look, and I give them my name. They always know who I am."
