Members of the Texas Tech and Lubbock communities gathered August 4 to welcome
Guy Bailey to his new position as the 15th president of Texas Tech University.
The Alabama native believes that he comes to the university at a time when “The alignment
of stars is perfect for Tech,” he said. “I believe Texas Tech is the greatest opportunity
in American higher education. There are few universities that have the potential
of Texas Tech.”
Guy Bailey and his wife, Jan Tillery Bailey, a Texas Tech graduate, were introduced
to the community during a news conference and reception on Aug. 4.
Bailey was named the sole finalist for the Texas Tech presidency after members of
a search advisory committee conducted an extensive nationwide search. Bailey most
recently served as chancellor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In the University
of Missouri system, chancellor is a position equal to president at Texas universities.
