Submissions Requested for Sabor Hispano 2008

Art, poetry and films celebrate Hispanic and Latino cultural diversity by focusing
on the Rhythm and Passion of Life.

Sabor Hispano 2008 invites all artists, poets and filmmakers to showcase their works
celebrating the Hispanic and Latino culture.
Artists, poets and filmmakers are invited to submit their works for possible inclusion
in a juried art exhibit, poetry reading and film festival celebrating Hispanic and
Latino cultural diversity.
With a theme of El Ritmo y Pasión de la Vida – or The Rhythm and Passion of Life
– Sabor Hispano 2008 is slated to begin Sept. 16 and continue through Nov. 2.
The exhibition is hosted by the university and Texas Tech University Health Science
Center’s Latino(a)/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Association.
“Sabor Hispano is an excellent opportunity for aspiring and noted artists, poets
and filmmakers to showcase their talents and their embracement of the region’s Latino
culture,” said Daniel U. Sánchez, oral historian at the Southwest Collection/Special
Collections Library and president of the Latino(a)/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Association.
An opening reception and awards program for the juried art exhibit and poetry reading
is scheduled for Sept. 16.
Additionally, the newly added Sabor Latino International Latin Film Festival makes
its inaugural run from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, with an awards ceremony scheduled to coincide
with the closing of the art and poetry exhibit.
Artists and poets must submit samples of their original works for consideration by
Aug. 29. Filmmakers interested in participating should submit their original works
and /or panel and film discussion ideas for consideration by Oct. 3. All works may
be in English, Spanish or both.
