LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech University is putting $9 million toward recruiting experts
in the field of nanophotonics.
Gov. Rick Perry made the announcement Wednesday in Lubbock. The money is expected
to bolster existing research at the university's Nano Tech Center.
Nanophotonics involves manipulating light on the nano scale, and has benefits in fields
like defense, telecommunications and homeland security.
The state's Texas Emerging Technology Fund put up $2 million toward the initiative.
Texas Tech matched that award, and San Antonio-based AT&T donated an additional $5.35
million.
