Texas Tech University’s final enrollment for the fall 2007 semester stands at 28,260, the third largest in Texas Tech history.

Texas Tech University’s final enrollment for the fall 2007 semester stands at 28,260, the third largest in Texas Tech history. Enrollment for the fall 2006 semester was 27,966. Enrollment is considered final on the 20th day of class, which was Monday.

The university did set a record for freshman enrollment with 4,515 up from 3,922 for fall 2006. Freshman enrollment was 3,801 for the fall 2005 semester.

The university also is showing steady gains in the diversity of the freshman class. Hispanic freshman enrollment is 571 compared to 462 in the fall 2006 semester, an increase of 24 percent. African-American freshman enrollment is 223, up from 155 last year, an increase of 44 percent. Asian-American freshman enrollment is at 168, up from 115, an increase of 46 percent.

Other highlights include:

• The graduate school continues to set records with 4,546, the 2nd straight record enrollment. Graduate enrollment was 4,443 last fall and 4,294 in the fall 2005 semester.

• Law School enrollment is 693, as compared to 702 for fall 2006.

• Students continue to take increased numbers of credit hours, with 363,203 this fall as compared to 360,877 last year and 357,931in the fall 2005 semester.

• Texas Tech continues to set records in the number of students who graduate with 6,144 graduating in 2006-07. In 2002-03, 4,836 undergraduate and graduate degrees were awarded. In 2003-04, 5,348 degrees were awarded. In 2004-05, Texas Tech awarded 5,861 degrees. In 2005-06, 5,923 degrees were awarded.
