Abstract shapes morph into metaphors

William Cannings, U.K. native and associate professor of sculpture at Texas Tech, bloats malleable seam-welded steel forms with air until they are taut like inflated balloons or burp open along the seam. Riffing on Andy Warhol's floating silver balloons of 1968, Mr. Cannings' Silver Clouds hangs overhead from filaments like shiny supple pillows.
