For the first time in university history, Texas Tech will send three riders to compete
in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championships.
Equestrian Team members Robin Morris, Allison Griest and Julia Lindholm will compete in the competition, slated for May 3-6 in West Springfield, Mass.
Morris, the team’s western riding coach, was named high point rider – the highest honor a competitor can receive – for Zone 7, Region 1. She won third place at the National Open Horsemanship competition in 2005.
Griest, a western rider, participated on March 24 in the National Western Semi-Final Championship hosted by Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Griest was awarded second place reserve champion honors to earn a place at the national championship.
English rider Lindholm participated March 31 in the Zone 7, Region 1 Zone championships, earning second place in the Intermediate Flat class.
"The Tech Equestrian Team is excited to send so many riders to IHSA Nationals," said Griest, also the team’s secretary. "Our team hopes to send more riders next year and in the years to come."
