Texas Tech University will celebrate Arbor Day beginning at noon Friday (April 27) on the Texas Tech campus at Memorial Circle. Planting will begin at 1:30 p.m.

The band PBM will kick off the festivities starting at 11:50 a.m. until 12:50 p.m. A short presentation will follow and various student organizations will be honored for their accomplishments.

Volunteers will offer food and activities all around Memorial Circle and free t-shirts will be handed out starting at 11 a.m.

Jana Vise, assistant director for Student Union & Activities, said the celebration is open to everyone on campus.

"Arbor Day is the one time of year where everyone on campus comes together to celebrate Texas Tech and what a beautiful campus we have," Vise said. "It’s the one occasion where all of the organizations – Greek, academic, multicultural, even departments – are out planting side by side."

Got white earbuds? Fans of Apple iPod will be in for a special treat this Arbor Day. Representatives from Apple, Inc. and Texas Tech Communications and Marketing will be distributing free Apple t-shirts, and members of the Texas Tech Community will be able to register to win one of several iPod Shuffles and an Apple TV. Look for their tent on the East side of Memorial Circle.

Sponsors of the event are Student Union & Activities and the Arbor Day student and staff committees.
