A one-stop wellness resource for students, the new center combines the services of
the Student Health Center and the Student Counseling Center.

The Student Wellness Center location near the Student Recreation Center supports
the concept of wellness from a combination of mental, physical and emotional health.
The recently-finished 44,000 square foot center is located near the intersection
of Main Street and Flint Avenue west of the Carpenter/Wells Residence Hall.
A one-stop wellness resource for students, the new center combines the services of
the Student Health Center and the Student Counseling Center. The facility houses
a clinic, a counseling center, laboratory services, x-ray services and a pharmacy.
The building comes equipped with more than 30 exam rooms, four nurses’ stations,
a library and 16 psychology offices located on the second floor. There are also rooms
set aside for group therapy sessions and patient observation. The center also provides
the Raider Assistance Program for alcohol education, assessment and referrals for
students.
The Student Wellness Center location near the Student Recreation Center is not coincidence.
The two facilities are all part of an overall wellness concept on the campus.
“The whole idea is about wellness and health – the mixing of the two,” said Jan
T. Childress, associate vice president for student affairs. “Complete student wellness
comes from a combination of mental, physical and emotional health. Students can find
all of that here.”
“The Student Wellness Center hopes to deliver the message to students that good
health is a concert that integrates mental and physical well-being,” said Eileen
Nathan, director of the Student Counseling Center.
“Wellness is an integrated concept for complete student well-being,” McPherson said.
“Now, our medical services are equal to or even better than any other medical service
in Lubbock.”
