LUBBOCK – Texas Tech University System Chancellor David R. Smith today announced that he has withdrawn his name from consideration for the position of chancellor of the University System of Georgia.

In a message to the firm coordinating the search for the position, Smith wrote:

“After careful consideration of a number of factors, and yet humbled by the nomination and interest on behalf of the Georgia System, I am asking that my name be withdrawn from consideration as Chancellor of the University System of Georgia. This is a difficult decision, but I feel it is in the best interest of my family and Texas Tech. I know, given the quality of the applicants, that your elegant system will be in good hands. I want to express my congratulations to the successful candidate when he is announced later this week. I wish you and the Board of Regents the very best, and have a Happy Holiday season.”
