LUBBOCK, Texas – The following is a statement from Texas Tech University System Chancellor
David Smith regarding the announcement that he is a finalist for Chancellor of the
University System of Georgia:
“I am honored to be considered for this prestigious position at such a fine university
system. I did not seek this opportunity, so it is very humbling to be named a finalist.
The selection process is ongoing and there are a number of steps that must be covered
before a final decision is made by the Georgia Board of Regents.
“I already have a great job at the Texas Tech University System, which is one of the
finest institutions in the country. We have many exciting challenges and opportunities
in front of us and I remain focused on the work that needs to be done at our outstanding
