STATEMENT FROM TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY SYSTEM CHANCELLOR DAVID SMITH REGARDING POSITION WITH UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF GEORGIA

LUBBOCK, Texas – The following is a statement from Texas Tech University System Chancellor David Smith regarding the announcement that he is a finalist for Chancellor of the University System of Georgia:

“I am honored to be considered for this prestigious position at such a fine university system. I did not seek this opportunity, so it is very humbling to be named a finalist. The selection process is ongoing and there are a number of steps that must be covered before a final decision is made by the Georgia Board of Regents.

“I already have a great job at the Texas Tech University System, which is one of the finest institutions in the country. We have many exciting challenges and opportunities in front of us and I remain focused on the work that needs to be done at our outstanding university system.”

The University System of Georgia comprises 35 colleges and universities, has 250,000 students and an annual budget of more than $5 billion.
