LUBBOCK – Students at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center are under new
leadership with the 2005-2006 Student Government Association officers.
Landon Wade Westfall, a third-year doctoral student studying medical microbiology,
will serve as SGA president. He has served two years as a senator representing the
Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Westfall said the Health Sciences Center SGA’s goals are to generate new and exciting
opportunities for the betterment of the student body while simultaneously enhancing
the image of the Health Sciences Center.
“I think many people are not aware that the Health Sciences Center works under its
own individual student government association. We work closely with the Texas Tech
University SGA, but our student leadership works hard throughout the year to specifically
focus on the needs of the Health Sciences Center students,” Westfall said.
Christina Janine Powell will serve as vice president of communications. Powell is
a second-year student in the School of Medicine. She previously served as a senator
representing first-year medical students and one year on the Senate Phonathon Committee.
Lauren Paige McReynolds will serve as vice president of operations. She is a second-year
student in the School of Nursing. McReynolds has served as a senator representing
nursing students and also served on the Senate Phonathon Committee.
Serving as vice president of finance is Navin Srinivar Nikam who is a second-year
student in the School of Medicine. Nikam has served one year as a senator representing
first-year medical students.
The Health Sciences Center SGA will have approximately 50 senators representing the
schools of Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy and Graduate School
of Biomedical Sciences. The officers represent all campuses.
