TEXAS TECH COOPERATIVE UNIT RECEIVES EXCELLENCE AWARD

LUBBOCK – The Texas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at Texas Tech University
has received a Unit Excellence Award from the U.S. Geological Survey Cooperative Research
Unit System.
The award recognizes the success of the unit’s personnel in moving forward to meet
mission objectives.
The Texas unit was established in 1988 as a partnership among the U.S. Geological
Survey, Texas Tech University, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Wildlife Management Institute
and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The unit’s accomplishments included strengthening relationships with state and federal
partners and restructuring administrative operations to better serve collaborating
scientists.
Dr. Clint Boal, assistant unit leader for wildlife, noted that these efforts took
place while the unit was understaffed during a leadership transition. Remaining personnel
shared vacated leadership roles and assumed additional teaching and graduate oversight
responsibilities, among other things.
