LUBBOCK – Individuals whose occupation includes cleaning businesses o or homes are
invited to participate in a research project sponsored by Texas Tech University Health
Sciences Center.
The study will focus on work practices and what cleaning products are used, said Ahmed
Arif, M.D., Ph.D., principal investigator and assistant professor in Health Services
Research at the Health Sciences Center.
“We will ask no sensitive questions, and employers will have nothing to do with the
study,” Arif said. “We just want to know the participants’ cleaning practices to better
understand their exposures to various products. This study may well be beneficial
to their future health.”
All participants will receive a $30 gift card for joining in a two-hour focus group
discussion. Group meetings will take place April 16, April 30 and May 3 at community
centers in Lubbock. For information on specific times and locations, contact Juleah
Williams at 743-3013 or Sara English at 543-6279.
The study is funded by a grant from the National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health, which is part of the Centers for Disease Control. The Institute is responsible
for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related
illnesses and injuries.
