LUBBOCK – The City Lights 2005 Charity Ball, an event benefiting three Lubbock children’s
charities, will take place at 8 p.m. April 15 at the Lubbock Club.
The annual black-tie event, hosted by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
School of Medicine’s Class of 2008 and the Texas Tech Student Chapter of the Texas
Medical Association, will benefit Children’s Connections Inc., The Children’s Home
of Lubbock and the Texas Boys Ranch.
The charity ball will feature live music by local band Masterpeace, as well as a silent
auction. Tickets, which must be purchased by April 7, cost $100 per person, $150 per
couple and $60 for residents. Medical students may purchase tickets at a discounted
rate of $45 until March 1; tickets will be full price thereafter.
A platinum donation of $5,000 includes four tickets and a two-page program ad. Gold
donations of $2,500 include two tickets and a two-page program ad. Silver donations
of $1,000 include two tickets and a half-page program ad, and bronze donations of
$500 include name and logo recognition in the program.
“Last year, the charity ball raised about $30,000,” said Brian Thurston, medical student
and event organizer. “This year, by adding a golf tournament, we’re hoping to raise
at least $45,000 for the three charities.”
A new feature this year, the Play A-Round for the Kids Charity Golf Scramble, will
take place at 1:30 p.m. April 8 at the Jerry S. Rawls Championship Golf Course. Tickets
cost $150 for individual entry, $500 for four-member team entry or $1,000 for team
entry and exclusive sponsorship of a tee box. All participants will be provided lunch
and an event polo shirt. All entries must be received by March 31.
