Teams of Texas Tech students will compete against each other in various challenges.
WHAT: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers at Texas Tech University is hosting its semiannual Junkyard Wars event.
WHEN: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday (Sept. 15-16)
WHERE: Reese Technology Center's Advanced Vehicle Experimental Laboratory, 9801 N. Reese Blvd., Suite 200
EVENT: Junkyard Wars is an event where teams of Texas Tech engineering students work together to create a device out of junkyard scrap, then compete against each other in various challenges.
Teams will learn about the challenge and build their devices on Saturday (Sept. 15). They'll put their creations to the test on Sunday (Sept. 16).
Leading industry experts from Phillips66, Consolidated Nuclear Society, Ulterra, Solvay, ExxonMobil, L3 and Pantex will be on hand to mentor the students as they craft their designs.
The event is sponsored by Texas Tech's Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering, Talos, Lockheed-Martin, Drill Quip, Hewlett-Packard, Valero, Phillips66, Consolidated Nuclear Society, Ulterra, Solvay, ExxonMobil, L3 and Pantex.
