The Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research is a comprehensive, life-span center with a three-fold mission that includes teaching, research and services. It's the only comprehensive autism center in West Texas, and one of the only university-affiliated autism centers in the country.
The Burkhart Center serves more than 100 individuals and their families every month. It provides focused Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services, social skills classes, respite events, camps, family training and support activities, the Transition Academy and the Connecting Academic Success and Employment (CASE) program.
"We focus on building a quality of life for all of our clients," said Wes Dotson, the Burkhart Center's director. "We see the success we're having because we have students who weren't allowed in a general education classroom, who are (now) being reintegrated into their school environment."
