Texas Tech painting professor Ghislaine's Fremaux's artistic interest in nudism among older people developed when she discovered several years ago that her 70-year-old uncle – who suffered with Parkinson's--had embraced social nudism.
"I became interested in what is achieved or fulfilled by practicing social nudism," Fremaux said, "especially for people who are older and experiencing illness like my uncle."
Working with Texas Tech gerontologist, Dr. Jean Scott Peterson, professor of Human Development and Family Studies, the two women visited a nudist colony in South Texas in July 2016 for a week. They spoke with elder members aged 60 to 80, and then Fremaux took photographs and later created the work in her current exhibit.
