Gas Prices Surge Higher Amid Fears of Shortages Following Hurricane Harvey

But supply isn't the problem, the Texas' oil and gas regulator said, even though refiners have been crippled by Harvey. Marshall Watson, petroleum engineering professor at Texas Tech, said a lot of the gas sold in Lubbock comes from refineries in Big Spring and Borger, not the coast.

Gov. Greg Abbott addressed the situation during a news conference this afternoon.

Friday morning reporters visited 15 gas stations; 13 had gas and two did not.

Hurricane Harvey packed a huge punch, and Texans staggered, but did not fall, says Freedom CNG, Houston Metro's compressed natural gas fuel provider (CNG). That sent shockwaves through the wholesale oil market, said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst with the Oil Price Information Service.
