OA Online - Prompted by chronic teacher shortages, Kermit Independent School District is starting a program called Grow Your Own to offer employees a chance to earn college degrees and become teachers for the district.
Kermit is not the only district looking for ways to grow their own teachers. Ector County ISD is working with Texas Tech University, Odessa College and UTPB on various ways to bring teachers into the fold and retain them. During the summer, UTPB also offers Future Falcon Leaders in Teacher Education for high school students interested in the profession.
