Researcher to Appear Before State Energy Resources Committee

WHAT: Texas Tech University professor Danny Reible will testify before the House Energy Resources Committee in Austin.

WHEN: 2 p.m. Wednesday (July 26)

WHERE: Room E2.010, State Capitol building, Austin

EVENTS: Reible is the Donovan Maddox Distinguished Engineering Chair and professor of Chemical Engineering and Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering in the Whitacre College of Engineering. He served on the Shale Task Force under The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST) that examined the environmental and community impacts of shale oil and gas development in Texas, releasing a report on its findings in June.

Reible’s expertise is in water resources and his research focuses on the transport and fate of contaminants in the environment, their assessment and remediation. With regards to water, the report says more research is needed to increase the usage of poor-quality waters instead of freshwater, helping to increase and ensure an adequate supply of drinking water while also minimizing possible incidences of contamination. It also calls for a need to increase prevention of leaks and spills on or near ground surfaces, which are most likely to contaminate drinking-water sources.

Reible will be one of several members of the Shale Task Force to give testimony before the committee, including TAMEST president Gordon England.
