Registration is open for the 2017 Fit 4 Fun Kid's Triathlon hosted by Texas Tech University Recreational Sports. Kids will put their skills to the test beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday (July 15) at the Robert H. Ewalt Student Recreation Center on Main Street just east of Indiana Avenue.
The triathlon begins with a swim at the leisure pool, transitioning to a bike ride and ending with a run around the recreation center. Various age groups will participate in different distances.
Ages 7-10 will swim 100 yards, bike 2.4 miles and run one mile, and ages 11-14 will swim 200 yards, bike 3.2 miles and run 1.5 miles. Participants and their families will get free access to the leisure pool after the triathlon until 2 p.m.
Recreational Sports will host a free preparation workshop for participants on July 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the recreation center.
The cost is $20 for the first child and $15 for each additional child from the same family. Packet pickup will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday (July 14) with last-chance registration available at the Fit/Well office inside the recreation center. All participants must pick up numbers and packets prior to the race. There will be no race-day pickup.

The Robert H. Ewalt Student Recreation Center opened its doors for the first time in the spring of 1980 and is one of the largest campus recreation facilities in the United States. It offers students, faculty, and staff of Texas Tech University an outstanding opportunity to participate in almost any indoor recreational activity imaginable. There are 242,000 square feet of activity space in the Recreation Center and eight courts with multipurpose flooring to accommodate basketball, volleyball and badminton.
