New Masked Rider to Take Reins, Raider Red to Pass Guns to New Mascot

The Texas Tech mascots for the 2017-2018 year will begin their duties after the transfer.

WHAT: Texas Tech University Transfer of Reins and Passing of the Guns ceremonies

WHEN: Friday (April 21): 2 p.m., Transfer of Reins; 3 p.m., Passing of the Guns

WHERE: McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center, Texas Tech campus; 17th Street and University Avenue

EVENT: The Masked Rider Program's 56th rider will take the reins of Fearless Champion from the 2016-2017 Texas Tech Masked Rider Charlie Snider.

Following the Transfer of Reins ceremony, two Raider Reds will be unmasked and pass their guns to two new students who will serve as the mascot for the upcoming academic year.

Spirit Squads

The Texas Tech Spirit Program is part of the Center for Campus Life office, a division of Undergraduate Education & Student Affairs.

The Spirit Squads lead the fans in supporting the teams at football, basketball, and volleyball games. They serve as ambassadors not only at athletic events, but also at many different school functions. In addition, the Spirit Squads gladly participate in their community by volunteering at local schools, charity events, and youth organizations.

Being a proud part of the Texas Tech Spirit Program is more than just a year-round commitment. It means dedication from each member to maintain the school spirit of the students, the alumni, and the fans.
