University Choir Collaborates With High School Choirs to Honor Choral Director

Texas Tech University Choir partners with Lubbock and Monterey high schools for Richard Bjella's retirement.

WHAT: The Texas Tech University School of Music  University Choir is partnering with the choirs of Monterey High School and Lubbock High School for a free concert honoring the retirement of Director of Choral Studies Richard Bjella.

The concert is titled “Hold On!”, with a prelude including two selections performed by each high school choir. The University Choir’s portion features assistant graduate conductor Minji Kim and associate graduate conductor Ryan Person.

Certain pieces will be accompanied by Angela Mariani, musicology professor and early music specialist; John Hollins, faculty organist; and Marc Sutton, doctoral performance student. Person also will conduct a small ensemble and trio of trumpets.

WHEN: 7:30 p.m. Thursday (March 2)
