Red Raiders can now add a personal touch to their coffee breaks, thanks to a new brew created specifically for Texas Tech University.
Day Break Coffee Roasters of Lubbock created a new blend called Café del Matador, which is brewed and sold only at The Market in the Stangel/Murdough Residence Complex.
Café del Matador will be available for sampling Monday, which is National Coffee Day.
“Café del Matador is a full-flavored roast that was crafted specifically for The Market and Texas Tech University,” said Alan Cushman, manager of business development at Texas Tech Hospitality Services.
Day Break coffee beans are grown in Costa Rica as well as various countries in South America where the company established partnerships with farms and growers as part of a rain forest alliance, Cushman said.
Scott Gloyna, Day Break Coffee Roasters founder, takes semiannual trips to South America to oversee coffee plantation operations as well as sample the coffee that will be sold to consumers, according to the Day Break website.
“The partnership allows Hospitality Services to provide a high-quality cup of coffee to campus and work together to better support the farms where this coffee is produced,” Cushman said. “Hospitality Services, through Day Break Coffee, is working to give back to these coffee producers.”
Café del Matador is sold at the Day Break Coffee Roasters & More café in The Market. At the café, students, faculty and staff also can purchase fresh-baked cookies, frozen yogurt, smoothies and specialty coffee.
