Texas Tech Invites Students to Outdoor Summer Science Academy

Applications are now open for free educational camp in Junction, Texas.

Texas Tech University’s Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement has announced that applications are now available for the 2014 Texas Tech University Outdoor Summer Science Academy (TTUOSSA). Hosted in Junction, Texas, students beginning the seventh, eighth and ninth grades in the fall of 2014 can apply to attend this free camp.

TTUOSSA is a five-day residential summer science academy in which students will advance their skills in science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on activities. In addition to living on Texas Tech’s Junction campus and finding their passion in STEM fields, academy participants also will improve their social skills as they develop friendships with students from all over the region. All participants receive room, board and tuition as well as transportation to and from Junction for free.

“The Texas Tech Outdoor Science Academy is a unique and innovative way to engage students in fields that are imperative to our nation’s future growth,” said Heather Martinez, director of Texas Tech’s Office of Community Engagement. “We are excited to be able to offer this amazing learning experience that is sure to empower students and provide them with skills that will enable their future success.”

The summer science academy begins June 29 and continues through July 3. Those who want to apply can contact the Office of Community Engagement by phone or email. The application deadline is June 6.
