A Texas Tech University professor in the College of Education will travel to Spain to promote international educational programs in the region and draw attention to extensive educational and tourist opportunities the region has to offer.
Comfort Pratt, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, has been invited to Spain by the Castilla y León Tourist Board, the Travel and Education Consortium and the Government of Castilla y León.
One of seven professors and administrators selected from different institutions in the U.S. to participate in the program, the trip takes place Oct. 16-21. The other institutions include the United States Naval Academy, California State University, Le Tourneau University, Washburn University, North Dakota State University and Indiana Hills Community College.
While in Spain, the group will meet with faculty from different universities in Castilla y León and visit many cities, including Segovia, Valladolid, Peñafiel, Salamanca and Madrid.
Pratt already directs a Study Abroad program for bilingual teachers in the Dominican Republic and will be exploring the possibility of starting another program in Salamanca for all teachers in the summer of 2012.
Castilla y León is the largest region in Spain. It is situated in the northwestern part of the country and consists of nine provinces, including Ávila, Salamanca and Segovia. The trip is sponsored by the Government of Castilla y León.
Salamanca is considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe. Its amazing historical and academic wealth are second to none. The students who will participate in the Study Abroad program will have the opportunity to study at the University of Salamanca and witness the history and beauty of the “cradle of Spanish language and culture.”
