College rodeo update

Go San Angelo - Texas Tech's women's rodeo team will enter the university's 62nd annual rodeo this weekend in Lubbock ranked No. 1 in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Southwest Region standings.

After competing in the first four rodeos of the regular season, Texas Tech has a commanding lead over No. 2 Weatherford College, 1,460 to 955.

During last week's Frank Phillips/West Texas A&M Rodeo in Perryton, Texas Tech finished second behind Weatherford College. However, the Lady Raiders finished No. 1 at the first three shows of the season — the Sept. 22-24 Eastern New Mexico Rodeo, the Sept. 29-Oct. 31 Sul Ross Rodeo and the Oct. 6-8 Vernon College Rodeo.

In the regional barrel racing standings, Haley Don Nelson of Texas Tech is ranked No. 1 with 460 points and Taylor Evan Langdon is No. 2 with 230. Texas Tech competitor Bailey Jo Guthrie is ranked No. 1 in the goat tying title race and Kirsten Brook Stubbs is in sixth place in breakaway roping.
