Commissioner Staples awards $1.2 million in grants for grape growing and wine making education and research

AUSTIN — With Texas ranking as the nation’s fifth-largest wine-producing state, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples today announced the Texas Department of Agriculture has approved $1.23 million in Enology and Viticulture Education and Research (EVER) grants that will benefit the Texas wine industry. This round of EVER grant funding will be awarded to Texas AgriLife Research, Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Grayson County College and Texas Tech University to improve enology (wine making) and expand viticulture (grape growing).

"Wine represents a growing industry that has a $1.35 billion economic impact on the Texas economy," Commissioner Staples said.
