Book examines question: Why do homeless shun shelters?

Those of you interested in the homeless issue — and I know there are plenty of you out there — might want to get your hands on a new book by Jason Wasserman, a sociologist and professor at Texas Tech University, and co-author Jeffrey Michael Clair, a professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The book, “At Home on the Street: People, Poverty and a Hidden Culture of Homelessness,” chronicles Wasserman’s four year study of homeless people who preferred living on the streets to shelters.
