Every year the engineering department at Texas Tech issues a robotic challenge, and it is something different every year, Burk said. This year's problem is to assemble a compound for a high-octane fuel that is more environmentally friendly than petroleum fuel.

Iron Man - a robot with a championship pedigree - and his team are focused on their mission. They have only three minutes, and there is no time to waste.

The robot rolls to a beach ball hanging from a string and stops under it. He extends his arms and deftly plucks the beach ball - which looks like a world globe - from the Velcro holder at the end of the string.
