Tech announces king, queen finalists in advance of Homecoming

Texas Tech students in warm jackets, fleecy boots and a few fuzzy white halos gathered Friday for a chilly Rowdy Raider Rally.

Members of the Pi Phi Sorority donned halos and glittery wings as the five 2009 Homecoming king and queen finalists were announced by this year's royal couple.

"We're supporting our sorority sister," said Kendall Dawson, a freshman studying Early Childhood Education.

Hundreds of students showed up at the student union's courtyard Friday to score a free T-shirt, support their Homecoming hopefuls and get in the mood for today's Tech vs. Kansas State game.

"The rally showcases the top 10 boys and the top 10 girls for Homecoming king and gueen," said Nicole Alexander, a public relations major and member of the Tech Activities Board. "Today, they'll narrow it down to the top five."
