Toni Redman looked for help when doctors told her she had breast cancer.
Seven years later, the 53-year-old Lubbock resident is still a member of the "Coping with Breast Cancer" support group, one of several in the Lubbock area. She kept attending to give other newly diagnosed women the kind of support she needed all those years ago.
The free group, offered by the American Cancer Society's High Plains Division, gives patients and survivors a place to learn from the struggles and successes of others, said Margaret Elbow, an associate professor of social work at Texas Tech and a volunteer facilitator for the group.
