Texas Tech’s 2009 Presidential Lecture & Performance Series to Include Author and Jazz Vocalist

Texas Tech's 2009 Presidential Lecture & Performance Series to feature a bestselling author and a jazz vocalist.

Texas Tech University’s Fall 2009 Presidential Lecture & Performance Series will include a bestselling author of memoirs and a jazz vocalist for students’ and the Lubbock community’s enjoyment.

The series brings enrichment to Texas Tech’s academic and cultural experience by bringing scholars and artists together with the university’s students, faculty and area residents.

Events include:

•    Bestselling author Jeannette Walls – 8 p.m. Oct. 2, the Allen Theatre, located in the Student Union Building (SUB) at 15th Street and Akron Avenue. Walls is the author of the memoir; “The Glass Castle”, which details her childhood growing up in poverty, overcoming the odds and ultimately achieving success as a writer.

•    Jazz vocalist and trio Rachael Price – 7 p.m. Nov. 13, the Allen Theatre, located in the SUB. Price started singing jazz as a child and remembers it hitting an inner chord with her at the age of five. At 22, Price is a young star on the rise.

Tickets for each event are $12 for general admission through Select-A-Seat and free for students with a valid ID at the SUB ticket booth. Tickets for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Texas Tech members are $10 with valid ID at the Select-A-Seat Civic Center office or SUB ticket booth.
