The Indian textile industry should start concentrating more on the production of technical textiles to face up to the competition from other countries, according to Seshadri Ramkumar, scientist and Associate Professor (nonwovens and advanced materials), Texas Tech University, USA.
In a chat with ‘The Hindu’ here, Dr. Ramkumar, who has recently obtained patent for decontamination wipe to clean toxic chemical warfare agent, pointed out that though the per capita consumption of technical textiles in India was set to leap from present 100 gm to 1.5 kg by 2030, the country’s textile manufacturers were yet to gear up to meet the demands.
