McCain Addresses Texas Tech Graduates

More than 2,500 graduates received diplomas during fall commencement ceremonies.

Texas Tech University awarded diplomas to 2,504 students during fall graduation exercises Dec. 12 and 13.

Commencement speakers were former presidential candidate Sen. John McCain and Chancellor Kent Hance.

McCain gave the address at the Graduate School commencement, while Hance spoke at both undergraduate ceremonies. U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico Greg Fouratt, a 1995 Texas Tech School of Law graduate, spoke at the School of Law hooding ceremony.

This fall’s graduation marked the first ceremony to honor graduates from the newly-formed College of Outreach & Distance Education.

Additionally, the university honored the first graduate to earn the new University Studies degree.  The program allows students to design a major course of study which conceptually unifies specialized knowledge, history, research and learning experiences from multiple academic disciplines, providing a customized educational experience where students complete a themed, in-depth examination of a particular topic using existing academic offerings.
