Lubbock Online: Tech to receive $25 million gift for engineering college

Texas Tech administrators will accept a $25 million endowment today from AT&T to the College of Engineering in honor of Edward E. Whitacre Jr., the former CEO of the telecommunications corporation and a Tech alumnus.

The college will be named for the businessman, according to a university news release.

"Ed Whitacre is a longtime and strong advocate for education at every level. I can't think of a better way to recognize his leadership and support of education," said Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and chief executive officer, in the release.
