The College of Human Sciences Council on Family Relations (TechCFR) announces the
2nd Annual Glamour Gala and the first ever Guys Night Out for foster teens in the
Lubbock area.
TechCFR and Community Partners of Child Protection Services have joined forces to
put on these two events for foster teens that might not otherwise have the resources
to attend prom.
"Glamour Gala and Guys Night Out are another way in which our students are serving
the community and helping those that may be less fortunate," said Linda Hoover, dean
of the College of Human Sciences. "I’m proud of the work that TechCFR is doing to
make a memorable prom night for these local teens."
Glamour Gala, on April 4th, aims to provide a night to remember for foster teen girls
in their junior and senior years of high school and their foster moms. TechCFR has
collected more than 300 prom dresses, shoes and jewelry from Texas Tech students and
from local businesses in the community. The girls and their moms will be treated to
dinner and a motivational speaker. Girls then will choose a dress and get measured
for alterations. Volunteer professional hair stylists and makeup artists help the
girls with their new look for prom night.
Guys Night Out, on April 11th, is for foster teen boys in their junior and senior
years. Boys will enjoy dinner, a motivational sports speaker, computer games, a dance
instructor and an etiquette seminar. Boys also will receive meal tickets for dinner
out and discounts on suits and accessories for prom night.
TechCFR is a non-profit educational and resource student organization dedicated to
promoting healthy families. As a student organization in the College of Human Sciences,
TechCFR carries the mission of enhancing the human condition to families and the underserved
in the Lubbock community.
