The programs are sponsored by Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Student Agricultural Council and the Agricultural Recruitment and Career Center. Dates and times are:

• March 29 – FFA Career Development Events Invitational; 1 - 5 p.m.
• April 14 – FFA Area Career Development Events; 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
• April 21 – FFA State Career Development Events; 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The programs are designed to reinforce instruction in the classroom with competition, said Cary Green, director of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources’ Agricultural Recruitment and Career Center.

Events to be judged include livestock, meats, poultry, horses, dairy cattle, dairy foods, land, range and pasture, and agricultural mechanics, he said. A critical element in the program is the use of problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills.

The area and state competitions will be followed by an awards ceremony that will take place at 2 p.m. In addition, a free hamburger meal for all the participating students will be provided. The luncheons are known as the "Red Raider Extravaganza."
