LUBBOCK – Lt. Gen. Nguyen Dinh Uoc of the People’s Army of Vietnam toured the Vietnam Center at Texas Tech Wednesday and spoke to history students.

The visit marks the second time Lt. Gen. Nguyen Dinh Uoc visited the campus. In 1999 Lt. Gen. Nguyen Dinh Uoc participated in a panel discussion with Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr., and Gen. William B. Rosson (Ret.) as part of the 3rd Triennial Vietnam Symposium. He was the highest-ranking People’s Army official to visit the United States at that time.

Last summer, Lt. Gen. Nguyen Dinh Uoc was assigned by the Vietnam Ministry of National Defense to accompany a group of Texas Tech students to the site of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, the final battle of the 1st Indochina War in 1954, in which he served.
