LUBBOCK -- Texas Tech University’s Outreach and Extended Studies will offer The Advanced
Placement Institute for AP and Pre-AP teachers June 13-17 on the Texas Tech campus
and at the TTU Center at Junction.
Todd Abronowitz, a Pre-AP and AP chemistry teacher at Creekview High School in Carrollton,
said teaching the teachers how to teach AP and Pre-AP classes is critical to the students’
success in those classes.
“An intense training such as this can provide to experienced AP teachers as well as
new AP teachers a new perspective on different topics,” said Abronowitz, an AP consultant
who will be presenting at the institute.
Abronowitz said that in the last five years, his own AP program has been tied for
fifth and for sixth in the state of Texas for number of students receiving a score
of three or better on the AP Chemistry exam.
The Texas Education Agency will reimburse school districts up to $450 per teacher
for attending the Advanced Placement Institute. Sessions and fees are as follows:
• English - Pre-AP-Middle School, $415
• English Literature - AP, $385
• Calculus - AP, $385
• United States History - AP, $385
• Chemistry - AP, $400
