I absolutely love what this man stands for. I would follow him anywhere! Congrats Tubby Smith, I know you will bring class, dynamic defense and much honor to Texas Tech! I look forward to cheering you and the Red Raiders on!

  2. Jerry Broeckert Says:

Tubby and Donna are an incredible addition to the Texas Tech and Lubbock community. I got to them both during their time here in Minnesota — they are salt-of-the-earth people and Tubby brings an integrity to the college game of basketball that serves as a role model for others to follow. Tubby has incredible energy and loves the game and will be an inspiration to the student- athletes he’ll be coaching. I look forward to my first trip to visit Lubbock, to see the Red Raiders, and to visit with Tubby and Donna.

  3. Thomas Clay Says:

I am very excited that Tubby Smith is our new basketball coach. Our program has gone down hill ever since Coach Bob Knight resigned. This hire will finally bring stability to Texas Tech basketball. Wrech’Em Tech!

With sadness, we congratulate Tubby – this is probably a better opportunity for his career. Texas Tech has a great athletic program. We’ll sure miss both Tubby and Donna who brought inspiration, class, humor and dedication to their MN fans and neighbors! Here’s wishing you the very best.

  6. Cindy & Ed Says:

We loved Tubby at Kentucky, became Gopher fans when he went to Minnesota, and donated our Minnesota sweatshirts to the Salvation Army after his unbelievable release. Congrats to Texas Tech on snatching up such a successful and classy act. We’ve just become two of the newest Red Raider fans!

  7. Lupe B Says:

Tech is lucky to have gotten a coach of his stature and track record. Coach Walker did an excellent job with what he was given, but he would have struggled with recruiting and a big name is the only way to alleviate that. Good luck, Coach Smith!

We loved Tubby in Tulsa and have followed his career since he left. Class act and good for the Red Raiders.
