Simply the Best: Several Texas Tech Teams Won National Titles This Year

One of them was the meat judging team, which earned its 10th national championship.

Several Texas Tech teams had to make more room in their trophy cases in 2012, bringing national championships back to campus.

The year started with the Texas Tech School of Law winning a couple of national titles, and ended in November with the meat judging team winning its 10th championship. In between, the women’s rodeo (the team’s first in school history) and chess (the team’s second straight) team also were named national champs.

The following is a closer look at Texas Tech’s top teams:


Meat Judging Team

Texas Tech students earned the school’s 10th national championship in meat judging yesterday (Nov. 18) at the American Meat Science Association’s International Meat Judging Contest held in Dakota City, Neb.

Chess Team

The Texas Tech University Knight Raiders are national champions – again. For the second straight year the Knight Raiders won the President’s Cup, a premier event that is known as the Final Four of College Chess and determines the country’s top intercollegiate team.

Women’s Rodeo Team

The Texas Tech women’s rodeo team made school history late Saturday (June 16) night, winning its first national championship at the 64th annual College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyo.

Law School – Moot Court Team

The Texas Tech School of Law moot court team won its second consecutive national championship Thursday (Feb. 2) at the National Moot Court Competition in New York City. Texas Tech Law also won the championship 32 years ago.

Law School – Arbitration Team

The Texas Tech School of Law arbitration team took another national championship Saturday (Jan. 21) at the American Bar Association (ABA) Arbitration Competition in Chicago.
