Growfish - Scourge of the drug-tainted shrimps
Samples of imported seafood picked up from grocery stores inNew Yorkwere tested by theInstituteofEnvironmentaland Human Health atTexasTechUniversityfor the presence of antibiotic drugs.
About 10 per cent of the 30 samples tested contained antibiotic residues in excess of permissible limits. In two samples – one fromIndiaand the other fromThailand- a banned antibiotic, nitrofuranzone, was found.
