A new online database designed to make it easier for faculty to search for government-funded research opportunities is now available.

“The website provides daily updates of federal proposal calls, and we hope it will making finding funding opportunities easier for our faculty,” said Michael San Francisco, associate vice president for research/faculty development. “We wanted to make the database user-friendly and make it as easy as possible for faculty members to find the specific funding opportunities for which they can submit proposals.”

The Funding Opportunities database is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of Information Technology.

“We made a commitment to faculty to give them new tools to enhance their research, scholarship and creative endeavors,” said Taylor Eighmy, vice president for research. “The database was developed with input from faculty across the campus so that we could make the project work best for the faculty members who will use it on a daily basis.”

The online database features an advanced search function that allows researchers to define specific areas of interest. There also is a Frequently Asked Question section to help researchers as they begin using the database.

Grants with limited submissions will also be managed through the database. In limited submission proposals, a funding agency restricts the number of proposals that an organization may submit. When multiple researchers are interested in a limited submission call, San Francisco will work with the faculty members and colleges in a review process to determine which proposals will be submitted.

While the online database currently lists only federally funded opportunities, San Francisco said work is already underway to determine how to add state and foundation funding opportunities.

The online database is part of the Funding Resources webpage on the Vice President for Research website. The page offers information about a variety of internal and external funding sources and faculty award opportunities.
