Little anticipation as start of quail season nears

Dallas Morning News – Quail hunters still shake their heads over the steady decline of their favorite game bird. Quail-Tech, a Texas Tech-based quail research group, recently turned up a blue quail from Potter County with antibodies for West Nile virus. It’s a wonder any of these fragile game birds still exist, though I believe that swine flu and yellow fever are much worse quail problems than West Nile virus.

An Entertaining and Educational Graphic Novel Textbook

Graphic Novel Reporter – Jeremy Short (professor in Texas Tech’s Rawls College of Business) and his team of cowriters and artists (Talya Bauer and Dave Ketchen) have set an amazingly high bar when it comes to rethinking the already amazing and growing potential of the graphic novel format. Atlas Black: Managing to Succeed is a witty, informative, and engaging graphic novel textbook that will hook just about any reader out there (seriously, check out their Amazon.com reviews). Short explains, “The famed media theorist Marshall McLuhan once said, ‘It’s misleading to suppose there’s any basic difference between education and entertainment. This distinction merely relieves people of the responsibility of looking into the matter.’ I think this quote applies well to our book. We’ve found that a much greater audience than business students have enjoyed these books.”

Texas Tech varsity to give textile expertise to India

Commodity Online – The nonwovens laboratory in Texas Tech University will colloborate with Indian textle industry in developing skill sets for the emerging technical textiles industry in India, according to Dr Ramkumar Seshadri, Associate Professor at Texas Tech University. The laboratory recently hosted a number of visitors from India including V Srinivas, Joint Secretary, Textiles, A B Joshi, Textile Commissioner, Dhiren Seth, President of Cotton Association of India (CAI) among others.The delegation also included industry leaders from India, Pakistan, Australia and USA.
