Wall Street Journal – The best route for parents battling kids over tattoos is to “use it as a teachable moment,” says Myrna Armstrong, a professor emerita of nursing at Texas Tech University and a longtime researcher on the topic. Nearly two in five, or 38%, of millennials, those 18 through 29, have at least one tattoo, compared with 32% of gen-Xers and 15% of baby boomers, says a Pew Research Center survey this year of 2,020 adults.

My San Antonio – The emerging technologies supported in this effort include medicine (targeting cancer, heart disease and trauma procedures), renewable energy (including the Renewable Energy Institute at Texas Tech, which is pioneering new discoveries in wind power) and computation (featuring cyber security and robotics), to name a few. When this research hits the marketplace, lives will be improved.

Overall, thinking in shades of gray is a sign of maturity, enabling people to see the world as it really is. It’s a “coming to grips with the complexity of the world,” says Jeff Larsen, a psychology professor who studies ambivalence at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
